By Huseyn Veliyev – Trend:

Conducting relevant research by local computer emergency response teams (CERT) of Kaspersky Lab products for the presence of spyware in them would be useful for cybersecurity of Azerbaijan, member of the Azerbaijani parliament Tahir Mirkishili told Trend Oct. 12.

He was commenting on the recent cracking of Kaspersky Lab’s antivirus program codes by Israeli specialists who concluded that they have cyber espionage tools.

According to him, the specialists’ research shows that the use of these programs poses a danger not only for state agencies but also for ordinary users.

“Products of Kaspersky Lab are also used in Azerbaijan. I think that carrying out the relevant research by local CERTs would be useful for our cybersecurity. In general, such cases show that all issues related to cybersecurity should be seriously investigated,” added the MP.

Foreign media outlets report that an Israeli security agency hacked into Russian antivirus firm Kaspersky Lab in 2015, providing the crucial evidence required to ban the company from providing services to the US government.

While the Israeli spies were inside Kaspersky’s systems, they observed Russian spies in turn using the company’s tools to spy on American spies, the New York Times reports. That information, handed to the US, led to the decision in September to end the use of the company’s software across the federal government by December.
