By Huseyn Veliyev - Trend:

Azerbaijan and Iran monitor use of frequencies in the border areas, a source in the Azerbaijani telecommunications market told Trend.

The sides are expected to agree by autumn on a procedure for the equal use of frequency resources, which will be certified by a relevant protocol, according to the source.

The agreement stipulates streamlining use of the radio frequency spectrum and reducing the likelihood of interference with radio-electronic means on the border areas.

Earlier, the sides reached an agreement on the use of the GSM frequency resources in the border areas. The parties signed a protocol on the equal use of 900 MHz and 1800 MHz frequency bands for GSM communications.

The two countries use the same base stations and the same frequency resources, which leads to interference with each other. The agreement allows to regulate use of the radio-frequency spectrum, and significantly reduce the likelihood of interference with radio electronic means in the border areas. Azerbaijan has similar agreements with Georgia and Russia.
