The number of Internet users in Uzbekistan has reached 22.1 million, including 19 million mobile Internet subscribers, Trend reports citing the Ministry for the Development of Information Technologies and Communications (MDITC) of Uzbekistan.

In February this year, MDITC reported 22 million Internet users, of which mobile users also accounted for 19 million people.

According to the ministry, it is planned to increase the level of Internet coverage of settlements throughout Uzbekistan in 2020-2022, in particular, to bring the number of broadband access ports to 2.5 million units, lay 20,000 km of fiber-optic cables, and, finally, to bring the population coverage to mobile Internet up to 95 percent through the development of cellular networks.

It was noted that the total bandwidth of the international data transmission network has not changed since November 2018 and amounts to 1,200 gigabits. The price for operators and providers in Uzbekistan decreased by 36.1 percent and amounted to 45,000 soums ($4.3) per one Mbps.

MDITC implemented two projects for the development of backbone transport telecom networks in 2020. Some 19,000 kilometers of fiber-optic communication lines have been laid, while it was planned to lay 10,000 kilometers. Their total length has been increased to 55,600 kilometers.

Some 4,500 mobile base stations have been built and put into operation since the beginning of the year, and 3,000 stations have been modernized.

MDITC noted that the level of mobile communication coverage of settlements in the country amounted to 97 percent, and mobile Internet - 87 percent. During the reporting period, one million ports were installed, and their total number reached three million.

About 12.8 thousand km of fiber-optic lines as of December 1 were laid to provide high-speed Internet for schools, preschool organizations, and healthcare facilities.

As a result, access to the network appeared in 7,150 schools (70 percent of the total number in the country), 4,581 preschool organizations (80 percent), and 2,747 hospitals and clinics (78 percent).

In addition, it is planned to bring the Internet coverage of kindergartens and healthcare facilities to 100 percent by the end of 2020.
