American-Azeri joint venture Catel (Caspian American Telecommunications, LLC) is currently performing the installation of a basic station for provision of CDMA services (Code Division Multiple Access) in Alibayramli. The company officials told Trend the station is scheduled to commission in short.
Last time the company installed such station in Mingachevir.
Catels CDMA network today, apart from Baku, Absheron peninsula and Sumgayit, is covering Ganja, Nabran, Shamkir and Mingachevir. Further, the company is going to
install CDMA stations in all regions of Azerbaijan.
Catels subscribers outnumber 20 thousand today.
Total capacity of CDMA network today is 50k cells, but the company is planning extension to 100k cells through addition of new modules, if s necessity arises.
JV Catel has operated in Azerbaijans market from 1999 as a wireless service provider. Since mid-2003 Catel has provided 3G CDMA services, and CDMA network was officially launched August 13, 2004.
