Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend S.Babayeva / Aliyar Tamirov, head of the Regulating Department of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies, stated to the second Black Sea and Caspian Regulatory Conference in Istanbul the Baku section of the main network of national information delivery, AzDatacom with a discharge capacity of 10 Gbps, has been put into operation.

Work over establishing AzDatacom is carried out in two stages; the first stage covers Baku and the second covers other regions and cities of Azerbaijan.

Firstly, the network is laid in regions where fibre-optic lines exist.

Tamirov noted that plans for the near future include putting a circular network with the capacity of 1Ggps into operation.

Educational institutions and state organizations will be connected to the network. Internet providers and suppliers of other types of services will be able to expand their business in the districts.

Tariffs for using the network will not depend on the distance as it is applied now. "Changes in tariff policy will allow for the essential increase of types of services on the basis of this network. Internet providers and other types of services could promote business in the regions," Elchin Aliyev, the Head of Sinam Company, earlier informed.

The project is carried out under the technical assistance program "National E-Governance Network Initiative" realized jointly with the Azerbaijani Ministry of Communications & Information Technology and United Nations Development Program, and is one of the measures included in the State Program for Development of Information & Communication Technology in Azerbaijan (E-Azerbaijan) in 2004-2008.

Tamirov stressed that 94% of communications lines in Azerbaijan are digital and NGB (Next Generation Network) is applied.
