Tourist visits from Russia to Turkey up by over 40% in May

Some 864,087 tourists from Russia visited Turkey in May 2018, which is 42.01 percent more than in the same month of 2017, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey told Trend.

The ministry noted that the share of Russian citizens in the total number of foreigners who visited Turkey in May 2018 accounted for 23.49 percent.

For comparison, this figure was 21.06 percent in May 2017.

Some 3,678,440 tourists visited Turkey in May 2018, which is 27.29 percent more than in the same period of 2017.

The Turkish province of Antalya was visited by 1,575,613 tourists in May 2018, which accounted for 42.83 percent of the total number of tourists. Istanbul was visited by 984,028 people, which accounted for 26.75 percent of the total number of tourists who visited Turkey during the period.

The remaining 30.42 percent of tourists visited other tourism provinces of Turkey in May 2018.

Turkey was visited by 436,887 tourists from Germany in May 2018, which is 11.88 percent more compared to the indicator for the same month in 2017.

Turkey was visited by 273,203 tourists from the UK, 203,232 tourists from Georgia, and 197,324 tourists from Bulgaria during May.

Some 11,462,407 tourists visited Turkey during the first five months of 2018, which is 30.8 percent more than in the same period of 2017.
