Passenger turnover at Kutaisi airport in Georgia increases by almost 40%

Passenger traffic at the Kutaisi international airport of Georgia increased by almost 40 percent from January to September 2019, Trend reports citing the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency.

According to the agency, during this period, 629,618 passengers were transported, which is 179,201 more than in the nine months of 2018.

The abolition of direct flights between Georgia and Russia on July 8 had practically no effect on the activities of the Kutaisi airport, since the flights from this airport are mainly carried out to the EU countries, the report said.

Tbilisi International Airport served 2.97 million passengers in the nine months of this year, which is 0.68 percent more (20,180 passengers) compared to the same period in 2018.

From January to September, 524,068 passengers were transported through Batumi International Airport, which is 2.01 percent more (10,336 passengers) than the number of passengers carried over the nine months of 2018.

As for local airports, Mestia Airport served 6,497 passengers in the nine months of this year, which is 1,093 passengers or 20.23 percent more compared to the same period last year.

Ambrolauri Airport transported 1,519 passengers in the nine months of 2019, which is 193 passengers more than in the same period last year.

In general, from January to September 2019, airports in Georgia served five percent more passengers than in the same period last year.
