Georgian airports serve over 4 million passengers

Georgian airports served 4.8 million passengers over first 11 months of 2019, said Deputy Director of the Civil Aviation Agency of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Levan Karanadze, Trend reports citing Georgian media outlets.

Reportedly, passenger traffic at Tbilisi International Airport shows a decrease of two percent. For 11 months, the airport served 3.4 million passengers.

From January through November 2019, 597,912 passengers were transported through Batumi International Airport, which is three percent more compared to the same period last year.

Kutaisi International Airport increased passenger traffic by 41 percent year-on-year. According to the data for 11 months, the airport served 791,399 passengers.

Positive dynamics continued in the passenger traffic at local airports. Mestia airport served 7,997 passengers (an increase of 22 percent), and Ambrolauri airport served 1,885 passengers (an increase of 21 percent).

According to Karanadze, Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air is still the leader in the Georgian aviation market by the number of carried passengers.

The airline occupies 16 percent of the Georgian aviation market. Turkish Airlines and Georgian Airways rank second and third with 11 percent and 10 percent, respectively.
