Uzbekistan plans to attract 1.7 million foreign tourists in 2021, Minister of Tourism and Sports of Uzbekistan Aziz Abdukhakimov said, Trend reports referring to Uzbek media.
Abdukhakimov said that the President of Uzbekistan set the task to attract 1.7 million foreign tourists and 7.5 million domestic tourists to the country this year, while the export of tourism services should amount to $370 million.
According to the information, there are 784 Islamic sites, 19 Christian and eight sites of Buddhist cultural heritage in Uzbekistan.
“Taking advantage of this opportunity, this year we can attract 700,000 tourists, and the total volume of tourist services will amount $130 million,” Abdukhakimov said.
It was noted that this year a total of 1.1 billion soums ($140,435) were spent on the promotion of pilgrimage sites in the context of regions, and 6 billion soums ($569,646) were spent on the development of the country's tourism potential in foreign countries.
In addition, it is planned to launch air and rail flights on a number of new local and foreign routes.
Earlier it was reported that the number of tourists arriving in Uzbekistan has decreased by 60 percent due to the coronavirus pandemic.
