BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 12. Iran welcomed 5.4 million foreign tourists in the first 10 months of this Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through January 20, 2024), a 52 percent increase from the same period last year, said Deputy Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Industry, Ali Asghar Shalbafian, Trend reports.
Shalbafian made the announcement today (February 12) at the opening of the 17th Tehran International Tourism Exhibition in the capital city.
The deputy minister emphasized that the tourism sector is a priority for the current Iranian government, which took office in August 2021, and that there are 1,607 ongoing projects in this field with a total investment of 400 trillion rials (about $9.52 billion).
The 17th Tehran International Tourism Exhibition, which will run for 3 days, covers an area of 60,000 square meters and features 20 halls. The event hosts stents from 12 countries and attracts visitors from 13 countries.
