During nine months (March 21-Dec. 21) of this Iranian year (began March 21, 2019), cargo transportation by Iran Railways in northwestern part of the country increased by 20 percent compared to the same period last year, said Ali Khodaei, director general of Islamic Republic of Iran Railways' northwestern department, Trend reports referring to the railway company’s website.
Khodaei noted that 268.3 million ton-kilometers of cargo was transported in the mentioned period.
The figure was 233 million ton-kilometers in the same period last year, the director said.
Khodaei added that a total of 537 million tons of cargo was transported in the reporting period, noting that this figure was 445 million tons in the same period last year.
The director said that the transported goods included fertilizers, zinc soil, copper soil and rails.
The Iran Railways in northwestern part of the country controls the territory of 601 kilometers. This territory is linked to at least six provinces.
