Iran to set up security units in ports

TEHRAN, Iran, Jan.16

Iran is to establish economic security police in its ports to monitor the country's export and import operations and prevent smuggling, said the Managing Director of Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO).

"The step is a big and positive change in improvement of import and export and reducing delays in ports," said Mohammad Rasta, Trend reports citing PMO website.

"The security units will also provide services to protect passengers, ensure tourists' safety and handle emergency situation," Rasta said.

"The Ports and Maritime Organization has no limits in supplying equipment to these units. In addition, considerable number of boats are being constructed that will join the security unit in near future," the managing director added.

"The organization will provide vehicles, motor bikes, and subsidiary equipment in the next Iranian year (begins March 21, 2020)," he said.
