Work on commissioning of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line in Georgia continues

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 2

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Work on the full commissioning of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway line in Georgia is underway, Trend reports with reference to the program of activities of the Government of Georgia for 2019-2020.

As reported, the program envisages two tasks. One of the tasks is about redemption of private land on the Marabda-Akhalkalaki-Kartsakhi section and the payment of compensation to owners.

The second task is to build additional protective structures to protect the railway line from landslides.

The Georgian government has already submitted relevant documents for fulfilling the above mentioned two tasks to the country's parliament.

The BTK railway has been built on the basis of the Azerbaijani-Georgian-Turkish intergovernmental agreement. At the initial stage, the volume of freight traffic will be at the level of 6.5 million tons of cargo, and up to one million passengers will be transported through this railway.

The BTK can greatly reduce the time of delivery of goods from China to Europe via Azerbaijan, which makes this route especially attractive.
