New railway vehicles put into operation in Iran

As many as 65 locomotives, freight and passenger wagons were put into operation in Iran, Deputy Minister for Roads and Urban Development and Executive Director of the Iranian Railways Company Saeed Rasouli said, Trend reports citing the ministry.

The deputy minister added that the cost of 65 railway vehicles is about $37.1 million.

These railway vehicles include 2 new locomotives (about $11.9 million), 53 new freight cars (about $10 million), 2 new passenger wagons (about $5.71 million) and 8 refurbished freight wagons (about $9.5 million),” he said.

According to Rasouli, with the commissioning of the mentioned vehicles, overall 209 railway vehicles were commissioned in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020).

Some 56 railway vehicles worth 1.25 trillion rials were put into operation in the first month of current Iranian year (March 20-April 19).

In the second month (April 20-May 20, 2020), 88 vehicles worth 1.44 trillion rials (about $34.2 million) were commissioned.

The total cost of these vehicles was 4.25 trillion rials (about $101 million).
