Uzbekistan boosts auto industry output

Factories of Uzbekistan produced 143,450 cars in the period from January through June 2020, which is 1.2 percent more than in the same period of 2019, Trend reports with reference to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

The volume of production of trucks in Uzbekistan decreased by 25.4 percent following the results of 1H2020. During the mentioned period, 1,832 trucks were produced in Uzbekistan.

In the period from January through June 2020, Uzautomotors JSC produced 35,050 cars of Nexia brand (minus 0.1 percent compared to the same period of 2019), 37,682 Cobalt cars (+54.2 percent), 26,047 Gentra cars (+33 percent), 26,687 Damas cars (+15.8 percent), 14,511 Spark cars (+60.4 percent) and 3,478 Labo cars (increase by 9.3 percent).

Moreover, Uzbekistan increased production of vehicle engines by 1.2 times and manufactured 113,100 engines in the period from January through June 2020.

General Motors Uzbekistan JSC, with a production capacity of 250,000 cars per year, was established in 2008 on the basis of Uzbek-Korean joint venture UzDaewoAuto, which passed under control of American General Motors, after the bankruptcy of Daewoo Corporation.

In May 2019, the board of Uzavtosanoat JSC, which owns the majority of car manufacturing enterprises in Uzbekistan, renamed General Motors Uzbekistan JSC into Uzavtomotors JSC.

Initially, it was assumed that on the local market, cars will be sold under the brand name Chevrolet in the local market, and under Ravon brand abroad. Since this year, exported cars have also been sold under the brand name Chevrolet.
