About 2 trillion rials (about $47.6 million) has been allocated for the commissioning of the second line of the Zanjan-Qazvin railway between the Zanjan and Qazvin provinces in western Iran, Head of the Planning and Budget Organization of Iran Mohammad Bagher Nobakht told journalists in Zanjan Province, Trend reports citing IRNA.
Nobakht emphasized that with the commissioning of the second railway line, Iran's freight transport capacity in the East-West corridor will increase by more than 7 million tons.
He added that as well as the commissioning of this railway line will result in reduction of the freight transportation time by 1,5 hours.
The official noted that the second railway line will be put into operation by the 12th month of the current year (February 19).
The construction of the second line of the Zanjan-Qazvin railway in Iran began in 2004. The construction resumed after a hiatus.
Some 800 billion rials (about $19 million) had already been allocated for the construction of this railway line. At present, there is 65 percent progress in the construction of this railway line.
