Uzbekistan's production of trucks shrinks

Uzbekistan's enterprises produced 168,710 passenger cars in the period from January through July 2020, which is 14.2 percent more than in the same period of 2019, Trend reports with reference to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

In turn, the volume of trucks' production in Uzbekistan decreased by 27.3 percent. During the mentioned period, 2,169 trucks were produced in Uzbekistan. The largest production volume (389 units) was recorded in June.

From January through July 2020, Uzautomotors JSC produced 41,663 cars of Nexia brand (-3.4 percent compared to the same period of 2019), 44,901 Cobalt cars (+49.7 percent), 30,368 Gentra cars (+24.5 percent), 30,889 Damas cars (+11.7 percent), 14,511 Spark cars (+38.9 percent) and 3,478 Labo cars (+ by 1.9 percent).

Moreover, Uzbekistan increased production of vehicle engines by 19.8 percent and manufactured 137,200 engines in the period from January through July 2020.

General Motors Uzbekistan JSC, with a production capacity of 250,000 cars per year, was established in 2008 on the basis of Uzbek-Korean joint venture UzDaewoAuto, which passed under control of American General Motors, after the bankruptcy of Daewoo Corporation.

In May 2019, the board of Uzavtosanoat JSC, which owns the majority of car manufacturing enterprises in Uzbekistan, renamed General Motors Uzbekistan JSC into Uzavtomotors JSC.
