Uzbekistan notes decrease in number of passengers transported in 2020

The number of passengers transported by all types of public transport in Uzbekistan in 2020 decreased due to COVID-2019 pandemic, Trend reports referring to the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction of Uzbekistan.

According to the ministry, the volume of transport services provided in Uzbekistan in 2020 in value terms amounted to 53.8 trillion soums ($5.1 billion), which is 24.5 percent of the total volume of services.

It is reported that the passenger turnover on all types of transport in the country amounted to 116.7 billion passenger-kilometers, which is 6.7 percent less than in 2019, while freight turnover amounted to 69.1 billion ton- kilometers, which is 4.6 percent less compared to 2019.

At the same time, the volume of freight transportation in international directions amounted to 46.9 million tons, which is 8.5 percent more than in 2019.

The ministry noted that significant work has been done in 2020 on the formation of a modern road and transport infrastructure, reconstruction and construction of new bus stations, the introduction of information and communication technologies in transport.

In particular, 94 new local and six international bus routes were opened for passenger traffic.

In addition, the construction of seven bus stations in Bukhara, Jizzakh, Kashkadarya, Navoi, Tashkent, Fergana and Khorezm regions and reconstruction of two bus stations in Andijan and Bukhara regions have been completed.
