By Klavdiya Romakayeva - Trend:

Uzbekistan plans to increase volume of cargo transported in Uzbekistan to 2.1 billion tons by 2030, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan.

The Deputy Minister of Transport Zhasurbek Choriev during a roundtable discussion on March 2 said that the total volume of cargo transported in Uzbekistan in 2020 amounted to 1.3 billion tons, increasing by 4.6 percent compared to 2019.

At the same time, the total volume of transport cargo turnover in Uzbekistan in 2020 reached 40.1 billion tons.

The minister noted that Uzbekistan's transport sector has a number of problems associated with cargo that is delayed for a long time at the border, the presence of weight and size standards with all sorts of differences, limited opening hours of checkpoints, and low quality of service on highways of international importance.

“Today, 6.4 percent of the gross domestic product of Uzbekistan falls on the sphere of transport services. Some 7.4 percent of total investment and 29.5 percent of the service sector account for transport sector,” Choriyev said.

He also added that it is expected that the volume of cargo passage in Uzbekistan will amount to 2.1 billion tons by 2030, while the volume of investments in the field will reach $1.9 billion.

Earlier it was reported that the volume of Uzbekistan's public external debt as of January 1, 2021 amounted to $21.1 billion, or 36.5 percent in relation to GDP.

It was noted that 17.5 percent of the public external debt, or $3.7 billion, was spent last year to support the state budget. In particular, $2.4 billion was spent on transport and transport infrastructure.
