Uzbekistan boosts import of electric cars

The number of imported electric cars in Uzbekistan compared to the same period last year increased by 78 cars, Trend reports referring to State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

According to the State Statistics Committee, 91 electric cars were imported to Uzbekistan from abroad from January through March 2021.

It is reported that six electric cars were imported by Uzbekistan in March 2021.

During the first three months of the year, electric cars were imported to Uzbekistan mainly from China - 56 cars. Turkey is second in the list of main electric car suppliers to Uzbekistan with - 24 electric vehicles. It is followed by South Korea, Germany and US, who exported three electric cars to Uzbekistan.

In addition, the committee noted that the number of imported electric cars in recent years has significantly increased. Thus, 13 electric cars were imported by Uzbekistan in 2018, 19 cars in 2019 and 131 cars in 2020.

Also, according to the information, $1.8 million was spent on import of electric cars from January through March 2021.

In December 2020 the government of Uzbekistan abolished the tax for the purchase of electric vehicles domestically and temporary import.

In addition, soon a roadmap for the installation of charging stations for electric vehicles will be developed in Uzbekistan.
