Uzbekistan Airways to create new low-cost carrier

Uzbekistan Airways will create a new low-cost carrier called 'Loukost' by the end of 2022, Trend reports referring to the Lex.uz, national database of legislation of Uzbekistan.

According to the measures to transform and support civil aviation enterprises approved by the president of Uzbekistan, four Airbus A320 aircraft will be converted to economy class, which will increase the number of seats on the plane and reduce the cost of tickets.

In addition, Uzbekistan Airways is expected to cut costs by $46.5 million by optimizing the staff of the company and its structural organizations, decommissioning 12 unused aircraft, and reducing the commission of foreign agents selling air tickets.

Also, in accordance with the new business strategy, it is planned to switch to a hybrid service model, according to which part of the flights will be carried out according to the principle of full service, and some - according to the principle of low-cost airline.

It was noted that business class will be canceled on destinations that are not in high demand.

Furthermore, starting from the third quarter of this year, it is planned to establish low-cost flights on four Airbus A-320 aircraft. It is also planned to lease three Airbus А321 NEO LR airliners and to increase the number of domestic flights from the current 17 to 49 per week for the development of long-haul routes.
