Uzbekistan notes increase in car sales

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 18

By Klavdiya Romakayeva - Trend:

Car sales in Uzbekistan in April 2021 grew 3.5 times compared to April 2020, Trend reports with reference to the report published by Center for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR) in Uzbekistan.

According to the CERR, the demand of the population in the car market in Uzbekistan in April has shown moderate growth for the third month in a row, having increased by 14.1 percent compared to March.

During the reporting period, the number of registered and re-registered cars increased rapidly in Tashkent (28.9 percent), Bukhara (31.4 percent), Surkhandarya (18.8 percent), Samarkand (17.8 percent) regions, while a decrease was recorded in Jizzakh (6 percent) and Khorezm (3.9 percent) regions.

At the same time 59,600 new cars were registered in Uzbekistan in 4M2021, of these, 2,900 (4.9 percent) cars were foreign.

In the structure of regions, the largest number of foreign cars was sold in Tashkent (11.8 percent), Tashkent (5.6 percent), Samarkand (3.3 percent) and Khorezm (2.7 percent) regions.

The CERR noted that the coronavirus pandemic has definitely impacted car sales in 2020. While demand for autos was high, stocks were hampered by the closure of production facilities and a shortage of chips, which became a global problem.

In addition, the CERR considers that the real estate and auto markets in Uzbekistan are expecting a certain boom driven by deferred demand.

“The number of transactions will continue to grow and may set local records, but prices will not rise sharply,” CERR noted.

According to the CERR, demand for real estate also rose in April this year. The number of real estate contracts concluded in the country amounted to 20,800, which is 2.5 percent more than in March.
