The length of the main railway lines has reached about 11,800 kilometers during the current Iranian government (which has been in power since 2013), Trend reports citing Ministry of Roads and Urban Development of Iran.

According to the report, however, the length of the main railway lines was 10,200 kilometers before the current government came to power. This figure will reach 13,000 kilometers by the end of the current government (August 2021).

“Before the current government came to power, there were about 778 locomotives in Iran. The number of locomotives is currently 951. This figure is estimated to be increased to 962 units by the end of the current Iranian government,” the report said.

In addition, number of freight wagons in Iran was 22,200 before the government came to power. At present, this figure has reached 26,400 wagons and, it is estimated to be increased to 26,700 wagons by the end of the current government, the report said.

According to the report, there were 1,980 passenger wagons in Iran before the current government came to power. At present, the number of passenger cars is 1,880. This figure is expected to reach 1,890 units by the end of the current government.

“Moreover, there were 121 self-propelled wagons in Iran before the current government came to power. The number of these wagons currently stands at 245 and this figure is estimated to be increased to 249,” the report said.
