Weekly review of key developments in Azerbaijan's transport sector

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 27

By Sadraddin Aghjayev - Trend:

A train with 32 40-foot containers was sent in transit through Azerbaijan to the Indian port of Nava Sheva this week, Trend reports.

Transportation operators were AO RJD Logistics, ADY Container and Tarkib Trans Co.

This project is a pilot project and is being implemented as a result of close cooperation between the relevant railway operators of the countries participating in the North-South International Transport Route. It is planned that the movement of block trains along the corridor will become regular.

Since the organization of long-distance transcontinental block trains is one of the main goals of ADY Container, the company has committed itself to provide a platform for the implementation of this project. The containers will be delivered to the port of Nava Sheva in a multimodal mode - by rail, road and sea transport.

According to Ambassador of India to Azerbaijan B. Vanlalvawna, Azerbaijan plays a strategic and decisive role in connecting the North-South route with the Indian port of Nava Sheva.

The ambassador noted that Azerbaijan is one of the best-prepared countries in terms of infrastructure, including the railway from Astara (Azerbaijan) to Russia.

It became known this week that the largest manufacturer of freight cars in Russia, the Research and Production Corporation United Wagon Company (UWC), will supply railway platform cars on bogies to Azerbaijan. A batch of platform wagons intended for the transportation of timber will be sent to the Azerbaijani operator ATU TRANS LLC until February 2022.
