BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 24. Last week it became known that the Astara (Azerbaijan)–Astara (Iran) railway construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2023 – beginning of 2024, Management Director at the Azerbaijani branch of Iran's Azar Raman Giti company Asad Razavizadeh told Trend on October 19.

As of today, the railroad line has been built by 45 percent and transportation has already been launched on the finished section. In accordance with the new agreement between Azerbaijan and Iran, the relevant project is scheduled to be done for 80 percent by the end of March 2023. The construction is supposed to be fully completed by the beginning of 2024.

Moreover, as many as 9,316 wheeled vehicles (excluding TIR and trailers) were transported through the Baku International Sea Trade Port in the first nine months of 2022, up by three times against the same period of 2021.

Cars are mainly delivered to the Port of Baku from Georgia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Japan, the UK, Belgium, Germany and other countries, and then are sent to the Central Asian countries. In accordance with the agreement of the Port of Baku with leading European logistics companies, world-famous car brands such as Toyota, Lexus, and BMW are being transferred to Central Asia through the Baku port as well.

Last week Russian Railways Holding (RZD) negotiated with representatives of Azerbaijan and Iran on the completion of the construction of the railway section Rasht (Iran) - Astara (Iran). The company is conducting very intensive negotiations with the Iranian side and with the Azerbaijani side in order to launch this route.

Moreover, Azerbaijan’s AzVirt LLC is building the Ruma-Šabac highway in Serbia, 21 kilometers long and six lanes wide.

Besides, in Belgrade, the company is building a ring road together with local companies. The company has also two projects with consortium partners in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which includes the construction of a large Pochitel bridge across the Neretva River and the Vranduk-Ponirak project. In Kyrgyzstan, AzVirt LLC is building one section of the Bishkek-Osh highway with a length of 67 kilometers. The company also has projects in Ukraine, however, due to the armed conflict, these projects have been suspended.
