BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 18. Cargo transit through Iran increased by 2.2 percent for the last Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), compared to the preceding year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), a member of the international and foreign trade committee of the House of Industry, Mine and Trade of Iran Rouhollah Latifi said on social media, Trend reports.

“In total, more than 12.9 million tons of cargo were transited through Iran over the last Iranian year,” he said.

The official added that the largest cargo transit through Iran was 13.2 million tons 9 years ago (March 21, 2014 through March 20, 2015). Iran has not yet been able to achieve this figure in the last year.

As reported, Iran attaches great importance to the International North-South and East-West corridors. It intends to further increase cargo transit via the country by improving railway lines within the mentioned corridors.

Meanwhile, Iran's non-oil trade turnover amounted to over 159 million tons worth approximately $113 billion in the last Iranian year, which is an increase of 11.2 percent in value compared to the preceding year.
