BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 27. Cargo transit through Iran’s roads and railways increased by 28.2 percent during the first eight months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through November 21, 2023), compared to the same period last year, Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development Shahriar Afandizadeh said, Trend reports.
The deputy minister stated that a total of 9.5 million tons of cargo were transited via the country’s roads and railroads in the specified period.
Of the mentioned amount, 2.93 million tons were crude oil and petroleum products, representing a 48.7 percent increase from the same period the previous year, he also said.
Meanwhile, 6.53 million tons accounted for non-oil products, showing an increase of 20.8 percent compared with the same period last Iranian year, Afandizadeh added.
Afandizadeh also pointed out that 8.53 million tons of goods were transited via Iran's roads and 938,000 tons via the country’s railways.
Currently, there are 2,793 km of controlled-access highways, 45,170 km of highways, and freeways in operation in Iran.
The length of railway lines in Iran is currently 14,984 kilometers. At present, 978 locomotives, 29,305 freight wagons, and 2,153 passenger wagons are in operation on Iran's railways.
