Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev expressed his condolences for the numerous victims of the earthquake in Turkey and offered all possible assistance in dealing with its consequences during a phone conversation with Turkish President Abdullah Gul.
The earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale jolted Van Province in Turkey on Sunday.
The death toll has reached 239 following the recent earthquake in the Turkish province of Van, Deputy Prime Minister Beshir Atalay said. The disaster injured about 1,150 people, CNN Turk reported. The Turkish authorities report that 970 houses were destroyed in the disaster.
Earlier the Head of Seismological Observatory at the Bogazici University, Mustafa Erdik previously said that the death toll as a result of the earthquake in the Van Province may reach about 1,000 people.
