Hosting of international specialized exhibition EXPO-2017 will promote Kazakhstan's image in the international community, Kazakh political analyst Dosym Satpayev believes.

"It [EXPO-2017] will certainly promote the image of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the international community... Moreover it corresponds to Kazakh leadership's common strategy for Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev's personal image promotion, because all such initiatives are officially related to him," Satpayev told Trend over phone on Monday.

According to Satpayev, Kazakhstan's leadership has paid great attention to the activities promoting Kazakhstan's and Kazakh President's image in the recent year.

"Here we can remember Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the OSCE, the Asian Winter Olympic Games in Almaty and Astana, many initiatives proposed by Kazakh president at various international symposiums and conferences. Moreover we can remember the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), the regular Congress of Spiritual Accord, when representatives of the world's largest religious concessions came to Astana...," the expert said.

Moreover, EXPO hosting will also be aimed at presenting Kazakhstan not only as the country with rich natural recourses, in particular oil and gas, but also as the state focused at innovative development, Satpayev believes.

"Expo - 2017 will be held under the theme "Energy for the future", i.e. it will focus on the development of alternative sources of energy, envisaged by Kazakhstan's industrial-innovative development program adopted a few years ago," the expert said.

Meanwhile, Satpayev does not believe Expo - 2017 brings economic benefits to Kazakhstan.

"There is of course intention to attract investors to Kazakhstan through Expo. But the cost of the event holding will be quite high... and unlikely to be compensated," Satpayev said.

Earlier Astana application for EXPO-2017 won in a secret ballot of International Exhibitions Bureau's member states.
