The dry port in Khorgos - Eastern Gate special economic zone in the Almaty province (south Kazakhstan) will allow to significantly improve the cargo logistics of the country with China, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said.

The president made the remarks during the nationwide teleconference dedicated to the Industrialization Day.

"We pin high hopes on this port for increasing the trade turnover between our countries," said the president after the port's opening.

He said it is not ruled out that a large city will be built near the port in the near future.

The head of state added that the dry port is a long-awaited project implemented jointly with China in accordance with the agreement between the two countries.

The dry port in Khorgos - Eastern Gate is expected to process more than 200,000 containers in the next two years.

It was earlier reported that Kazakh president gave a start to the construction of the dry port in July 2014. The const of construction of this dry port totaled 74 billion KZT ($1=182.27 KZT), according to Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC.
