The Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS) has been created in Kazakhstan with headquarters in the capital city of Astana, the Kazakh Agriculture Ministry said Apr. 28.

The IOFS has been created during the 7th Islamic Ministerial Conference on Food Security and Agricultural Development of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Astana.

Kazakhstan became the chairman of the OIC General Assembly. According to the IOFS Charter, its Executive Board consists of eight members, and Kazakhstan will be a permanent member of the IOFS.

Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazarbayev initiated in 2011 to create the Islamic Organisation for Food Security.

The new organization will solve problems of providing the population of the Islamic countries with more affordable food proceeding from their climatic conditions and geographical location, creating the most favorable transportation and logistics routes to minimize the cost of food supplies to the OIC member countries, food price stabilization thanks to the formation and management of joint food fund.
