Kazakhstan to buy electricity from Russia for crypto miners

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 5

Trend:

The Kazakh Samruk-Energy state-owned company and the Russian Inter RAO Group are holding the talks on the creation of a joint venture for supplying energy, Trend reports referring to Kazakh media outlets.

Previous report by Kazakh Ministry of Energy said the energy consumption in the country increased by eight percent during 10 months of this year, while the growth was recorded at 1-2 percent in the previous years.

The ministry associated this with the consumption of energy by crypto miners, including illegal ones.

Not only Kazakhstan, but also neighboring Kyrgyzstan faces shortage of electricity.

These countries have introduced a temporary restriction on electricity consumption, including heating.

Kyrgyzstan’s Severelectro OJSC asked citizens not to use the heating devices during peak hours (morning and evening) to avoid emergency shutdowns and damage of equipment.
