Kazakhstan is ready to consider the issue of shale oil extraction, Trend reports citing the Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources Serikkali Brekeshev.
"As a ministry, we are ready to consider these issues if this will help increase the mineral resource base of Kazakhstan, it’s our position," Brekeshev said.
The minister also referred to the environmental component of this issue.
"This is already a question of oil extraction technology, drilling of horizontal oil wells, sidetracking with consistent hydraulic fracturing. This technology is called "Fishbones". Technologies don’t stand still, they are developing and in compliance with all environmental and technical requirements, there will be no negative aspects for the environment, but then again, this should be looked at individually for each project," Brekeshev added.
