Kazakhstan announces oil production plan for 2022

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 18. The oil production plan for 2022 is 87.5 million tons, Kazakh Energy Minister Bulat Aqchulaqov said at the Ministry Collegium, Trend reports citing Kazakh media.

“The volume of oil extraction in 2021 amounted to 85.9 million tons, oil exports - 67.6 million tons. The plan for oil production for 2022 is 87.5 million tons, for export - 69 million tons. Three large oil and gas projects (Tengiz, Karachaganak and Kashagan) remain significant positions in terms of country's oil production,” Aqchulaqov noted.

Oil production at the Tengiz project amounted to 26.5 million tons, gas production - 14.5 billion cubic meters in 2021, the minister added.

A total of $45.2 billion projects of future expansion is being implemented at the oilfield that will increase oil production by 12 million tons per year.

The overall progress of work on the project amounted to 89 percent at the end of 2021, the plan for 2022 is 97.4 percent and the project is planned to be completed in 2023.

“The volume of oil production at Kashagan amounted to 16.2 million tons, the volume of gas production - 9.8 billion cubic meters at the end of 2021. The construction of a gas processing plant with a capacity of 1 billion cubic meters last year began. It is planned to achieve 40 percent progress in the construction and installation works of this gas processing plant in 2022. The plant with full capacity will produce commercial gas in the amount of 800 million cubic meters, liquefied gas – 119,000 tons,” Aqchulaqov added.

According to the agency, the volume of oil production at Karachaganak is 11.5 million tons, the volume of gas production is 18.9 billion cubic meters.

Nowadays, projects are being implemented at the oilfield to maintain the liquid hydrocarbons extraction level in the range of 11-12 million tons per year. The project on the gas processing capacity expansion worth a total of $1.1 billion was commissioned in 2021. Commissioning is also underway to launch the fourth gas re-injection compressor at a cost of $578 million.

Work has begun on the construction of the 5th sour gas re-injection compressor. The project budget is $970 million and will be completed in 2025.
