BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 6. The price of gas in Kazakhstan in 2025 may double following the creation of a common gas market of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) countries, Board Chairman of QazaqGaz National Company Sanzhar Zharkeshov said at the government meeting in the parliament’s Mazhilis [lower house] on June 6, Trend reports.
“Improving gas pricing is also necessary, taking into account joining the common market of the Eurasian Economic Union to prevent the flow of cheap Kazakh gas to other markets of the EAEU gas importing countries,” Zharkeshov noted.
Previously, Kazakhstan’s Energy Ministry repeatedly noted that existing gas prices in the country are significantly lower than in Russia.
“Therefore, the national company proposes to gradually raise gas prices by differentiating consumers, some of whom will have to buy gas at market prices,” Zharkeshov explained.
Providing an attractive purchase price to subsoil users for additional volumes of gas should stimulate an increase in production, he added.
