BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 4. The income of companies in the rail transportation sector in Kazakhstan grew from January through August 2022, Trend reports via energyprom.kz.

This figure reached 851 billion tenge ($1.8 billion), up by 15.1 percent compared to the first eight months of 2021 (739.6 billion tenge or $1.56 billion).

Most of the income (786.4 billion tenge or $1.66 billion) was traditionally received through the transportation of cargo and baggage, and the remaining 64.6 billion tenge ($140 million) fell on passenger transportation.

In the first eight months of this year, 273 million tons of cargo and luggage were transported by rail, which is almost the same as a year earlier (a decrease of only 0.2 percent).

Most of all cargo and luggage was transported in Aktobe and Akmola regions, as well as in the capital, the least - in the West Kazakhstan region in the reporting period.

Meanwhile, total cargo turnover in the country increased by 5.4 percent to 206.2 billion tons per kilometer.

At the same time, 13.1 million people were transported by rail, which is 32.6 percent more than in 8M2021.

In the regional context, most passengers were transported in the capital, Aktobe and Kyzylorda regions, and least of all - in the West Kazakhstan region from January through August 2022.

Passenger turnover in the reporting period reached 11.1 billion passengers per kilometer, up by 38.4 percent year-on-year.
