BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 26. Électricité de France (EDF), a French multinational electric utility company, proposes to install a EPR-1200 reactor [a third generation pressurised water reactor design] in Kazakhstan's first nuclear power plant, Trend reports, citing the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan.

The issue was discussed at the meeting between Bolat Akchulakov, Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan, and Vakisasai Ramany, EDF's senior vice president in charge of Development, New Nuclear Projects and Engineering.

The sides discussed a number of key issues in the development of bilateral cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy were discussed at the meeting.

Following the meeting, the parties expressed confidence in continuing to work together to build a mutually beneficial partnership for the development of nuclear energy.

According to the ministry, France has a full cycle of nuclear fuel production. In 2021, the Ulba-TVS plant for the production of ready-made nuclear fuel for Chinese nuclear power plants using the French Framatome technology was launched in Ust-Kamenogorsk.

Meanwhile, in November 2022, during a visit to France, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting with EDF CEO Luc Remon to discuss the introduction of advanced technologies in nuclear energy.
