BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 1. Inflation in Kazakhstan reached 20.7 percent in January, in year-on-year terms, Trend reports, citing the Bureau of National Statistics of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms of Kazakhstan.

The monthly inflation in January amounted to 1.1 percent.

The sharpest inflation increase was recorded in the Aktobe region (1.7 percent), which is 0.6 percent more compared to the national average. Almaty region, however, outperformed other regions with only 0.7 percent inflation recorded in this region.

Food prices increased by 1.4 percent, non-food products prices increased by 0.9 percent, while the paid services became 0.7 percent more expensive.

Among the food products, cucumber prices soared by 22.4 percent, onion prices increased by 16.7 percent, while tomato and sweet pepper grew by 8.8 and 6.5 percent respectively.

On the other end of the spectrum, sugar prices dropped by 1.9 percent.

Prices for household chemicals recorded the largest increase among non-food products. Laundry detergent prices grew by 3.9 percent, while soap prices soared by 2.7 percent.

The Bureau of National Statistics updates the inflation calculation monthly. The next update will be provided on March 1.
