Kazakhstan’s Atyrau region commissions industrial greenhouse complex

BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 27. Kazakhstan’s Atyrau region commissioned an industrial greenhouse with a capacity of 1,600 tons of agricultural production, Trend reports, citing the local municipality.

The overall cost of the project exceeded 3 billion Kazakh tenge ($6.66 million). The municipality notes that some 60 people are employed at the facility.

The capacity of the greenhouse complex, situated on 4 hectares, amounts to 900 tons of tomatoes and 700 tons of cucumbers per annum. The greenhouse complex can produce up to 6 tons of tomatoes and 7 tons of cucumbers daily.

Serik Shapkenov, head of Atyrau municipality, said that the implementation of the projects will assist the small and medium enterprises operating in the region. He added that the project is significant for the regional agriculture sector.

The future plans include expanding the greenhouse to 16 hectares. The product categories will expand to livestock, fisheries, and poultry. The greenhouse is expected to contribute to regional food security and contain the food product price growth.
