BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 30. The main route of the submarine fiber optic cable along the Caspian Sea, which connects Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, will span over 340 km from Aktau to the Azerbaijani city of Siyazan, Trend reports.

This was stated during the meeting of the Public Council of Kazakhstan's Samruk-Kazyna National Welfare Fund, where representatives of Kazakhtelecom shared the update on the progress of an international project to construct a fiber optic communication line along the bottom of the Caspian Sea, connecting Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.

It was noted that a backup line measuring 330 km will be laid from the Kazakh port of Kuryk to the Buzovna point, near Baku.

In 2022, Kazakhtelecom signed an agreement with Azerbaijan's AzerTelecom on the joint construction of a submarine communication line.

This submarine cable will provide Kazakhstan with an additional gateway to international traffic. A high-level design (HLD) has already been developed and a detailed roadmap has been approved. The research work is nearing completion. It is expected that the cable will be constructed through a joint Kazakh-Azerbaijani enterprise on an equal partnership basis.
