Kazakhstan records decrease in consumer price index

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 5. The inflation rate in May stood at 15.9 percent year-on-year in Kazakhstan, Trend reports.

The country's Bureau of National Statistics said the prices of food products have risen by 16.5 percent, non-food items by 17.2 percent, and paid services by 13.5 percent.

In May 2023, the monthly consumer price index (CPI) showed a slower growth rate, standing at 0.6 percent compared to April's 0.9 percent. Prices for paid services increased by 0.7 percent, while both food and non-food items saw a 0.5 percent increase each.

The rise in prices is also noticeable in air passenger transport services, which experienced an 11.5 percent increase, followed by railway transport with a 2.5-percent increase.

Furthermore, in the reporting month, there was an increase in the prices of liquefied gas in cylinders by 1.7 percent, gasoline by 1.2 percent, and diesel fuel by 0.7 percent. Compared to the previous month, prices for clothing and footwear rose by 1.3 percent, personal care products by 1.2 percent, and cleaning products by 0.8 percent.

Meanwhile, in April annual inflation rate was 16.8 percent, in March - 18.1 percent, and in February - 21.3 percent.
