BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 27. Kazakhstan ranks 9th among 123 countries in terms of organic wheat exports, Senator Ali Bektaev said during a Parliament session, Trend reports.
"In the era of globalization, it is crucial to address the complex issues in the agricultural sector to foster a competitive agriculture industry within the country. International experience has shown the importance of developing organic agriculture as a promising direction that enhances profitability and competitiveness in the agricultural sector. Currently, the global organic market is valued at 120.6 billion euros, and this figure continues to grow. Over the past 7 years, its volume has increased sevenfold, making this industry a global trend. According to international organizations, Kazakhstan ranks 9th in terms of organic product exports among 123 countries, 4th among organic wheat-exporting countries, and 6th in the export of organic flaxseed oilseeds to the EU," said Bektaev.
Furthermore, the senator highlighted that the country adopted the "Law on Organic Production" in 2015.
"However, according to industry experts and specialists, this law does not fully protect the legitimate interests of domestic organic product producers and does not align with international practices in organic production. In light of this, initiatives have been taken by the Parliament's deputies of the 7th convocation to develop draft laws of the Republic of Kazakhstan on 'Production and Circulation of Organic Products' (new edition), 'Amendments and Additions to Legislative Acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Issues of Organic Product Production and Circulation,' and 'Amendments to the Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Administrative Offenses.' The main goal is to improve legislation in the field of organic product production," added Ali Bektaev.
