ASTANA, Kazakhstan, July 6. Kazakhstan's industrial production index (IPI) reached 101.2 percent in 2022, Trend reports.
According to the country's Bureau of National Statistics, this increase reflects positive developments in various industries, including a 3.6 percent growth in manufacturing and a 0.4 percent growth in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water, and conditioned air.
Among the regions, Abay, Akmola, Almaty, Zhambyl, and the city of Almaty recorded the highest growth rates.
In 2022, the total value of industrial production amounted to 48.7 trillion Kazakh tenge, out of which 24.9 trillion Kazakh tenge or $55.7 billion (51.1 percent of the total volume) accounted for the mining industry and 21.1 trillion Kazakh tenge or $47.2 billion (43.4 percent) for manufacturing.
In the mining industry and quarrying sector, the IPI stood at 99.1 percent in 2022 (which indicates a 0.9 percent decrease). This was primarily due to declines in the extraction of crude oil by 1.9 percent, natural gas by 1.1 percent, iron ore by 20.4 percent, and other minerals by 3.8 percent.
In contrast, the manufacturing sector experienced a notable growth rate of 3.6 percent. Production of food products (a 6.4 percent increase), beverages (11 percent), tobacco products (8.9 percent), petroleum products (1.8 percent), chemical products (13.6 percent), rubber and plastic products (4.8 percent), non-metallic mineral products (2.7 percent), basic precious and non-ferrous metals (6.9 percent), finished metal products (3.6 percent), and machinery (10.8 percent) all contributed to this increase.
The IPI for the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water, and conditioned air reached 100.4 percent, primarily driven by the growth in production, transmission, and distribution of electricity, which increased by 1.3 percent.
