ASTANA, Kazakhstan, August 1. The domestic market of Kazakhstan witnessed the sale of 150,000 automobiles, out of which 103,000 units were manufactured by local companies, Marat Karabayev, Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development, said at a government meeting, Trend reports.
Minister Karabayev stated that the current year holds significant importance in terms of revising policies towards automotive manufacturers.
"In this industry, there are three main goals. First, increasing the variety of vehicles produced The construction of two auto plants is now in progress. The second is the growth of small-scale assembly. We are taking steps to tighten localization standards and promote the switch to small-scale car assembly in order to accomplish this", the minister said.
"Establishing a component foundation is the third step. Currently, businesses that produce batteries and wheels are going through homologation procedures so they may be installed in domestic vehicles," he continued.
He added that plans are in place to establish a base of vehicle components, including seats, multimedia systems, mudguards, fenders, and tires, as part of raising the level of localisation. Construction on the necessary production facilities has already started with this goal in mind.
The machinery industry accounts for 1.5 percent of Kazakhstan's economic structure and 13 percent of the manufacturing sector. Moreover, significant emphasis is placed on new projects. By 2028, the implementation of 151 projects with an investment of 1.7 trillion tenge ($3.9 billion) is planned.
