Volume of transportation of goods by rail between Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan revealed

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, September 25. The volume of transportation of goods by rail between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan amounted to 20.6 million tons for 8 months of 2023, which is 26 percent more than for the same period in 2022, Trend reports.

This was stated during the meeting of the delegations of Kazakhstan Railways-Freight Transportation LLP and Uzbekistan Railways in Astana.

As the Kazakh side noted, exports of grain increased by 38 percent, flour by 77 percent, and coal by almost 2 times. Imports of chemical and mineral fertilizers increased by 67 percent, fruits and dried berries by 10 percent, cars by 6 percent, and more.

The parties agreed to increase the exchange of trains at the interstate junction point Saryagash - Keles, giving priority to cargo such as coal, grain, and oil products according to the additional plan.

At the meeting, an agreement was reached on the formation of new supply chains for fresh fruits and vegetables.

In addition, the parties signed a Protocol following the meeting.

Kazakhstan entered the top three among the main trading partners of Uzbekistan based on the results of the first half of 2023. The trade turnover between the countries amounted to $2.19 billion from January to July 2023, which is 7.5 percent of the total trade turnover of Uzbekistan.

In terms of total trade turnover, Uzbekistan exported goods worth $699.3 million to Kazakhstan, and imports amounted to $1.496 billion.
