170 industrial projects to be launched in Kazakhstan in 2023

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 3. As part of the Industrialization Map of Kazakhstan, it is planned to introduce 170 projects in the food industry, construction industry, mechanical engineering, metallurgy and other industries this year, Trend reports.

This was stated during a government meeting chaired by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov, where the development of the manufacturing industry was discussed.

As the PM noted, this will create about 12,500 permanent jobs.

Smailov added that on behalf of President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, a list of the largest projects to create high value-added clusters in a number of priority areas is already being prepared. In particular, in oil, gas and coal chemistry, deep metal processing, uranium industry, mechanical engineering, production of automotive components, fertilizers, etc.

According to him, projects for the production of butadiene and polyethylene are at the implementation stage. At the same time, the International Center for the Development of Oil and Gas Engineering is carrying out effective work on the localization of production of international companies and technology transfer.

Thus, a number of new projects have already been introduced for the production of gas detectors, pumps and pressure sensors.

As the PM noted, within the framework of the defense-industrial complex, a high share of localization and transfer of modern technologies will also be ensured. Also, by the end of the year, a Military-Industrial Complex Development Fund will be created to support domestic enterprises.

Smailov noted that, along with this, on behalf of the President of Kazakhstan, a draft Comprehensive Plan for the development of the engineering industry is being prepared.

"In general, all the main directions and tasks for the development of the manufacturing sector have already been outlined. Now it is necessary to ensure their active implementation," he added.

The index of industrial production in Kazakhstan from January through July 2023 amounted to 103.6 percent. During this period, industrial goods were produced for a total of 26.3 trillion tenge (about $55.5 billion). In the structure of production, 46.6 percent (12.2 trillion tenge or about $25.7 billion) came from the mining industry, and 46.7 percent (12.3 trillion tenge or about $25.9 billion) from the manufacturing industry.
