ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 31. Kazakhstan's banks and Kazpost JSC carried out transactions in the amount of 1.11 billion documents using the payment tools in September 2023, Trend reports.

Data from Kazakhstan's National Bank shows that in general, the amount of these transactions amounted to 73.7 trillion tenge (about $156.6 billion).

Money cards and money orders are still the most prevalent payment methods in Kazakhstan. At the same time, the average amount of a payment order in September 2023 was 649,340 tenge.

The usage of this payment tool mostly for small-amount payments and transfers characterizes a high share of payment cards in terms of number but a low share in terms of transaction volume.

Checks and electronic payment instruments were the least often used payment methods during this time period. The distinctiveness of these instruments accounts for a modest proportion of their total quantity and volume of use.

As of September 1, 2023, Kazakhstan had 71.4 million payment cards in circulation. Debit cards account for 80.3 percent of all transactions, while credit cards account for 16.9 percent. 2.7 percent of debit cards with credit limits and prepaid cards were used.

Kazakhstan had 61.7 million payment cards in circulation as of September 1, 2022.

The volume of transactions using payment cards of Kazakh issuers amounted to 14.9 trillion tenge (about $31.4 billion); the number of transactions was 1.03 billion in August 2023. The number of non-cash transactions increased by 27.6 percent and reached 1 billion transactions; the volume increased by 35.3 percent and reached 12.9 trillion tenge (about $27.2 billion).
