ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 23. The volume of cargo transportation through the seaports of Kazakhstan amounted to 7.2 million tons in 2023, which is 11 percent more than in 2022, said the Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan Marat Karabayev, Trend reports.

He made the remark during an expanded board meeting at the Ministry of Transport, chaired by First Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Roman Sklyar.

According to the minister, the structure of cargo is dominated by export transportation of Kazakh companies in the direction of European countries.

"Terminal facilities are being developed in seaports. Thus, in the port of Kuryk, with the participation of private investments, a new grain terminal with a capacity of 1 million tons was built last year and 2 oil tankers with a carrying capacity of 8,000 tons were purchased. The projects were implemented in cooperation with the Emirati company Abu Dhabi Ports," Karabayev said.

As he noted, in order to ensure investment attractiveness, the ports of Aktau and Kuryk are included in the special economic zone Seaport Aktau.

"Also, together with the Singapore company PSA International, a pilot digitalization of the Kazakhstan section of the TITR route is being carried out. Integration with the transport systems of Azerbaijan and Georgia will be completed in the first half of 2024," the minister said.
