ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 24. Construction and installation work covered 10,700 kilometers of roads in Kazakhstan in 2023, including 6,500 kilometers of roads of republican importance, said the Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan Marat Karabayev, Trend reports.
He made the remark during an expanded board meeting at the Ministry of Transport, chaired by the First Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Roman Sklyar.
According to the minister, reconstruction was carried out on 3,600 kilometers, of which 856 km were put into operation, and travel for 923 km was provided.
"The main efforts in 2023 were aimed at completing the projects under construction in Karaganda-Almaty, Taldykorgan-Ust-Kamenogorsk, and Atyrau-Astrakhan. As a result, traffic in these areas was opened," he said.
As the minister noted, major and medium repairs covered 2,900 kilometers, of which 1,100 kilometers (200 kilometers of major repairs and 900 kilometers of medium repairs) of highways were completed.
"On the local road network, repairs covered 4,200 kilometers, of which 3,600 kilometers were completed. As a result, the share of roads in standard condition on the republican and local networks increased to 87 percent," Karabayev said.
Meanwhile, 10,700 roadways of republican and local importance were repaired or built in Kazakhstan in 2023. According to the official data, 753 billion tenge (about $1.64 billion) are provided for these purposes, which is 14 percent more than last year.
Furthermore, today, 8 international highway corridors with a total length of about 13,000 km pass through the territory of Kazakhstan. Among them are Western Europe, Western China, the North and South, TRACECA, and others.
