The number of early marriages is growing in Kyrgyzstan, Elmira Suyumbaeva, expert of the Government Decisions' Expertise Department under the Kyrgyz Ministers' executive office told the press Wednesday, "24.kg" reported.

Statistics says that maternal and child mortality is increasing as well. "Young uneducated women have few rights. Besides, after giving birth to children they usually stay with their husband's families, while their husbands have to work abroad. Therewith, the rate of early marriages in rural area is much higher than in cities. Parents get rid of hanger-on daughters arranging their marriages, where the later face violation of their rights too", Aleksandra Eliferenko, Chairwoman of the Crisis Centers' Association, said.

"We are talking about physical violence of women but we should not forget about moral violence as well. For example, some people mistakenly consider bride kidnapping to be a national tradition. Another point is that women earn much less money than men, as they work mostly in social sphere. Although there is some progress. In the previous convocation Parliament had no women at all, this time they make 25 percent," Elmira Suyumbaeva said.
